I Woke Up Like This | Skincare

This photo has no filter. This is my skin currently. I am glowing. I wish you could feel my face, it is soft as ever. I am truly and utterly feeling myself right now!!

People have always said that I looked younger than my age. I am 30 years old. I take it as a compliment because hopefully I will look 30 at 60. I need that Angela Bassett effect! I'm trying to be grown and sexy at 75. HAHA! I have been trying and testing products for the past couple of months and have found some ultimate favourites that you may want to try.
Before I tell you about the products I am loving, lets start with the basics and listen up! If your diet is trash, you cannot expect to have great skin. It just doesn't work like that. Now don't get me wrong. I am not the healthiest person on this planet, but looking at my diet I eat pretty well. Since turning pescartarian nearly 4 years ago my body has changed in terms of the way my skin looks, how my body works and the energy I have. I eat a lot more vegetables and fruit which sounds so cliche, but it makes a huge difference! I am also a water addict. I drink about 2-3 litres a day and I believe it contributes immensely to my skin being vibrant and bright. I can tell when I am lacking water because my skin looks so dull and lifeless. And when I say addict, I am serious. I always have a bottle in my bag and I have at least two 1.5 litre bottles in my bedroom at all times. I cannot go to sleep without drinking water...yeah I have a problem....anywho

I have normal/dry skin, meaning in the winter my skin gets super duper dry and it requires a lot more moisture. I don't experience break outs or spots unless my period is due. I have had some skin issues in the past due to hair removal. A couple of years ago I was burnt via laser hair removal which left my face very sensitive and dry. I really had to dedicate time to caring for it and making sure it didn't get worse as I scar very badly.

Lets start with cleansers

One product I have stood by for years is Black Soap. Black soap is a popular product that has been used for hundreds of years from West Africa. It can be drying if you do not moisturise correctly, so be aware of that. It helped majorly with my burns and clearing dark marks on the skin.
Dudu-Osun Black Soap £2.99
  • Plantain Peels – Cooking bananas (or Musa paradisiaca) are a good source of antioxidants, protein, folic acid, thiamine, riboflavin, potassium, and vitamin C.
  • Cocoa PodsRich in antioxidants, cocoa pods – or the shells that house the treasured cocoa bean – also have strong anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Coconut Oil – A well-rounded ingredient indeed, coconut oil cleans and moisturizes the skin, and helps kick start collagen production.
  • Palm Kernel Oil – Obtained from the seed of Elaeis guineensis, palm kernel oil is rife with several types of fatty acids.
  • Palm Oil – Derived from the fruit of the palm tree, unrefined palm oil (known as red palm oil) is abundant in vitamin E, alpha and beta carotene and other antioxidants, as well as essential fatty acids.
  • Shea Butter – Also plentiful in beneficial fatty acids, shea butter is a prized ingredient for silky smooth skin. It helps repair damaged skin tissues and boost the body’s ability to generate collagen.     -naturallivingideas.com

Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil £4-5   |    Nip+Fab Glycolic Cleansing Fix £8 apx

As I am wearing makeup more often I am more aware of making sure I cleanse correctly ensuring I remove every simple particle of it. Do not sleep in your makeup, it will age your skin and also cause irritation. I love using the Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil to help remove all the last bits of makeup if my Garnier Micellar Water has missed anything. It is very gentle on the skin and leaves it feeling very hydrated.
To exfoliate I am a fan of the Nip+Fab Glycolic Cleansing Fix. It isn't too harsh on the skin, and really helps to remove dead skin. I have some other exfoliators that were very harsh on the skin and did more damage than help. I like to use this with my trusted Magnitone Cleansing Brush, it makes sure the product penetrates my skin properly and really removes all the gunk and dirt below the surface.

Glam Glow Super-clearing Mud Mask Treatment £42 | The Body Shop Masks £17 |
Sukin Purifying Facial Masque £7-8 | Glam Glow Powermud Dual Cleanse Treatment £42

If you can't afford to get regular facials..like me. Then a mask should be your best friend. I love masking. It really helps to clarify my skin and treat the texture of my face. I have tried tons of different face masks and some do absolutely nothing, they just sit there. I love face masks that really tighten the skin and help to give it a glow. A tip when purchasing masks...go to TK Maxx. They stock really great skincare brands for less, so you aren't breaking the bank because some of these products can be very pricey.... i.e. Glam Glow. As amazing as their products are, the pots are tiny for the price.

Nip+Fab No Needle Fix Eye Mask £6.00 | Nip+Fab Viper Venom Eye Fix £8+

I have also been a recent fan of eye masks. The eye area is a tricky area to care for. I am trying to clear dark circles, fine lines and texture. It is proving difficult because my sleep pattern is trash and I wear contact lenses that can irritate my eyes sometimes. One product I have noticed a difference since using is the Nip+Fab Eye Viper Venom Eye Fix. It has really helped to brighten my under eye area and improve the texture.
B. Confident Day Cream £9.49  |  B. Vitalised Vitamin Spritz £7.99

When it comes to moisturisers I am still investigating and trailing some products. One I bought this week is the B. Skincare Day Cream from Superdrug. I visited their Vegan popup shop in Box Park Shoreditch and had a browse to find some interesting products. I also picked up the B. Vitalised Vitamin Spritz  and I have to say so far they have worked really really well on my skin, I have seen and felt a difference. I was previously using shea butter, but I noticed it was too heavy for my face during the day. It works well for the night time in winter as it really provides a lot of moisture.

Antipodes H2O Intensive Skin-plumping Serum £29.99 | Nip+Fab Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Shot £24.00

I have also become interested in serums. I never really understood the purpose of them, I just thought..oh another product to sell, but I was wrong. On the days when my skin needs a boost or plumping up a bit. I add a serum to my moisturiser. I am currently playing between the Nip+Fab Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Shot and Antipodes H2O Intensive Plumping Serum. I am more in love with the Nip+Fab Dragon Blood's Hyaluronic Shot as I see an instant difference in my skin.

I am also still playing around with toners as I haven't used one that had made me feel like I need it..if that makes sense. I have used witch hazel in the past and apple cider vinegar, which was ok. But I feel like the cleanser does alot of the toning work for me. Maybe I need to keep working on it. One toner I am trailing is the Sanoflore Aqua Magnifica Skin-Perfecting Botanical Essence, I use it before applying my moisturiser when I have used quite heavy makeup the day before. It has a slight tingle so I feel like its doing something, but I am still playing with it to see if it is amazing. I also love using the Garnier Miceller Water (the green one) I have tried the yellow and pink one, but I keep coming back to the green one which is designed for combination- oily skin. It leaves my skin feeling soooooo good. I think its my favourite skin care product. I just love it. I use it to remove my makeup and it cleanses about 93% of it and its cheap!! win win!

I have also added Pearlessence Rose Water to my routine to re-hydrate my skin throughtout the day and when wearing makeup.
Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the redness of irritated skin, get rid of acne, dermatitis and eczema. It is a great cleanser and aids in removing oil and dirt accumulated in clogged pores", says Dr. Deepali Bhardwaj, Skincare Expert.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water £4  |  Sanoflore Aqua Magnifica Skin-Perfecting Botanical Essence £18
 Pearlessence Rose Water £17

Moving onto my night time routine. I keep it very simple. I believe the key to your night routine should be moisture. That is the key for skincare in general but especially for the night time. I never really invested time in my night time routine because I couldn't be bothered, but I have learnt how vital it is. When you are sleeping your body is still working hard and your skin is renewing and dead skin is forming so its the best time to hydrate, moisturise and treat.

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% £5.80  |  Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair £50-55

Nip + Fab Viper Venom Extreme Night Fix £20.00

I cleanse my face the same I would for the morning, making sure I remove everything that has been living on my skin throughout the day, especially makeup. Over the last couple of months I have noticed the texture of my skin has changed, it has become a bit rougher and my pores looked huge, so I visted The Ordinary. So many people have told me it is superb at skincare, so I enquired at the store. The assistant advised trying the Lactic Acid 5%. I had no knowledge on what it would do, how to use it or anything. But I did my research and learnt about AHAs & BHAs, and how vital they are in your skincare routine. Let me say this..... the Lactic Acid is LIFE!!!!  I wax my face to remove the hair due to the laser hair removal not working, and sometime due to my aggressive nature, when waxing over the same area multiple times to ensure all hairs are gone, the skin can be broken or irritated, which leads to skin peeling and damged skin. I applied the Lactic Acid, the next morning those areas were peeling and I thought OMG what did I do. Did I make it worse....erm no.. all the dead and damaged skin peeled off to reveal fresh healthy clear skin and I was like WOAH.... I believe the hype.

To moisturise I use the Nip+Fab Viper Venom Extreme Night Fix with a few drops of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. These two together is heaven! When I wake up my skin is super duper soft and hydrated. I look all glowy and fresh!! I love love love it.

SO that's it. All the skincare products I love and am experimenting with. Let me know what your must-haves are and if you also use any products I do. Remember.... drink ya water!!
