Matching my melanin | The Body Shop

I am a makeup newbie.

I didn't start wearing a full face of makeup till about 2years ago. Since hosting events and taking photos I have become a bit more aware of 'looking the part' if that makes sense. Its a weird for me as well because makeup is still a luxury and special thing for me. Not an everyday thing!! hehe!!

Now, the one issue I have had when it comes to makeup is finding foundations that match my skin tone. It's really annoying. The range of shades are so limited. Brown girls need love too!! The shades that are available are usually in the high end range and I like to save my coins!!

So you can imagine my excitement when The Body Shop approached me to review their fresh nude foundations and shade adjusting drops.

When I went to their mothers day event, I noticed they did foundations in darker shades and was intrigued, but never really looked into it.

I was sent two shades of the Fresh Nude foundations, Yucatan Honey & Silcily Amber and the Lightening & Darkening drops to try out.

The struggle was real!!!

I was mixing for ages to match my tone. One mix was too light, the other too dark. Then once applied and dried, I looked ashy!! I was ready to give up!! well..I did. Makeup shouldn't be this hard!!

I attended The Body Shop's Wild Christmas event last week and they had a makeup station. I asked the makeup artist if they could help me out with the foundations as I was determined to make this work!! She told me the shades I had were way too light and that is why I was having issues matching and suggested I go for Seychelles Cinnamon 070.

And that is what I did. Its a perfect match!!

The coverage is light-medium which I do not mind at all, as I like my makeup to look as natural as possible. The Fresh Nude Foundations are paraben free, 24hr moisturisation, semi-matte and SPF 15.  The only issue I have with Fresh Nude Foundations is the transfer is really bad!! Other than that, I like it!

I use the darkening drops to contour with. I'm new to contouring, and am enjoying it!! Come through cheekbones!!

Overall, I must say I am pleased with this product range and do suggest it if you are looking for a affordable (£15)  foundation in your skin tone!!

  1. I am the opposite to you, I really struggle to find a foundation light enough for me, so I am very intrigued to try the lightening drops
